About Me
Heather Rivas (she/they) is a songwriter, music director and pianist/keyboardist. Born and bred in Los Angeles – with Honduran, El Salvadorian and German-Irish roots. Heather is a graduate of Berklee College of Music (B.M. Performance and Music Business) and California Institute of the Arts (M.F.A Jazz Studies).
Heather has toured and performed with numerous artists. At just the age of 17 they toured with jazz trumpeter Ingrid Jensen through the Thelonious Monk Institute of Jazz. Additionally, they had the opportunity to work closely and record with award winning Latin Grammy producer Javier Limón and artist Tonina for her debut album “Black Angels” which was featured on Barack Obama’s Favorite Songs of 2018 list. She has toured, music directed and accompanied various pop artists such as Reneé Rapp, Laufey, Hope Tala, Lewis Capaldi, Ben Platt, Jacob Banks, Lindsey Lomis, Tonina, LoveLeo and has made appearances on shows such as Ellen DeGeneres, The Late Late Show with James Corden and Jimmy Kimmel Live. Heather is also a Nord Endorsed Artist.
In addition to performing, Heather has been involved in music education for years. As a graduate TA at CalArts, she taught jazz piano lessons and was involved in outreach such as the Community Arts Partnership program, teaching music theory to the youth in the LA area. In 2018, she was brought on as a Stanford Jazz Mentor Fellow to teach and mentor students at the Stanford Jazz Workshop. She currently hosts her YouTube page as an educational platform for musicians.
When they are not touring, they are recording, producing, teaching and writing music in LA. Their debut album released Aug 31, 2023, further ground listeners in their emerging alt-pop sound.
